Correct Body Alignment
Correct body alignment is when the 8 load bearing joints are aligned in the way that our bodies were designed to be. When there is proper muscle balance from front to back, side to side and top to bottom then our body (musculoskeletal system) will function optimally. In this state, the force of gravity on our joints is minimal and the body is able to have a sense of liberty and is free to move.
The Right Alignment
Notice in the front view, how the shoulders and hips are level and the knees, ankles and feet are level. When these joints are stacked correctly, the force of gravity becomes equal to all joints.
As you look at the side view, you will notice all the same joints are stacked upon each other.
With this proper alignment, your feet will be pointed straight ahead. The pelvis will be level, not posterior(tilted back) or anterior(tilted forward.) Your goal should be to restore a nice 'S' curve in your spine.
When there is any deviation from the drawing above, it will cause uneven stress on the muscles and joints when the force of gravity is distributed on your frame.
Sitting at a computer day in and day out without strengthening your muscles as a unit, will cause your body to slump into forward flexion and rounded shoulders. Putting much stress on your cervical spine in this position can cause the spine to lose it's 'S' curve and your bones begin to make a 'C' curve instead. This is called kyphosis(hunching of the back.)
The picture below was taken in Japan by a PAT. Notice the difference in the before and after picture of just one session of postural alignment therapy!
Therefore, strengthen the hands that are weak and the knees that are feeble, and
make straight paths for your feet, SO that the limb which is lame may not
be put out of joint, but rather be healed. Hebrews 12:12-13
