I had been suffering from a radiating pain that was sourced by a C6/C7area injury/misalignment incurred by a violent motorcycle accident on an interstate at highway speed.  This pain went to the middle of the upperright area of my back, traveled down my right arm to the tips of my index and middle fingers.  My chiropractor worked on me for several months without any relief.  We agreed to an upper cervical epidural which also produced no results.  My wife met Brenda through a mutual friend and was intrigued with her description of what she does.  The brief interpretation my wife presented to me made sense.  We made an arrangement to meet for a consultation and after only  a few sessions, the pain was gone.  Again, this only makes sense.  If our muscles are trained to hold our skeletal frame in proper alignment; if we use our full capacity to breath completely;if we focus on our bodies and give it what it needs, good health follows.I have shared Brenda's approach to healthy and pain free life with many friends and will continue to do so.  She is an angel.

As a performer and recording artist/songwriter, being able to stand tall and straight adds so much to the sense of confidence and image. Throughout my life's journey, I have had to overcome many trials and have come to recognize how postural alignment therapy through the Egoscue Method, has helped my body to re-align itself.   Egoscue is to the musculoskeletal  frame, as chicken soup is to a case of the flu! Whenever I start to feel stress taking my body out of alignment, I do my customized postural  exercises, prescribed by Brenda Oakes. Egoscue is a remarkable remedy! I am a 61-year-old female who has lived with chronic pain for years. I was injured many years ago, first through a trampoline accident and then, by being moved improperly after surgery. My nerves in my right arm were stretched and the pain was excruciating. At that point I was unable to continue with my 5 day per week aerobics classes, that had kept me fit, slim and in shape. Because of my injuries and pain, I became immobile and sedentary. This was a vicious cycle, because “it hurt to move,” (though I needed to) so I didn’t move, and my lack of movement caused more pain. One thing exacerbated the other. I was in forward flextion continually, especially due to working at a computer all day.


When I first came to Brenda, I was in extreme pain. I had tried everything else and nothing had given me the lasting relief I was seeking. I was desperate! Brenda designed a plan exclusively for me, and I felt results after the first session. I continued with my workout menu and after mastering the first level, she advanced me to the next level. One of the most amazing things about my therapy program is that it is workable. It is something very possible to accomplish and is not an off the charts strenuous program. Although it takes me about 1 ½ hours to complete my workout, it is definitely worth every minute of it. When I finish, I actually feel more relaxed than if I had had a massage. I am beginning to have quality of life again. I had wondered if I would ever have relief again. Well, it is definitely possible! My skeletal alignment is VITAL to my WELLNESS. When I am in pain, I am immobilized, especially with migraines and neck pain. When I am pain free, I am mobile!

Last week, my neck went out of alignment and was extremely painful. I had a migraine with nausea. Since it was a weekend, I couldn’t see my chiropractor, so, my only option was to do my menu of e-cises. By the time I finished, my migraine was gone and my neck felt considerably better. I am totally SOLD on the Egoscue method of physical therapy. It really works!! The Egoscue method isn’t an option for me, it’s a necessity.The most wonderful and amazing thing that has happened to me as a result of doing postural alignment therapy, is I can dance again!  I am so thankful for Brenda and her commitment to help me gain mobility and a quality, pain-free life.

As a result from working out in my garden, I was in excruciating pain. My chiropractor recommended that I have a MRI taken as my problem seemed to be acute. The MRI revealed I had 2 bulging discs, L4 and L5, and I had pulled my piriformis muscle. The advice I was given at that point was to start chiropractic treatment and see if the pain lessens or not. If it did, great: if not, then I was to go see a Neurologist who could then recommend anti-inflammatory medication and pain killers. If that did not help, then another option would be cortisone shots injected into the discs. I was told that it did not appear that my problem was severe enough to warrant surgery. None of these options seemed to offer much hope to me as they were only ways to treat the symptoms of inflammation and pain. I had no hope that I could do anything about what was causing the problem nor could I do anything that would help my body to heal. I decided to take over-the-counter, anti-inflammatory medicine(2 extra-strength Tylanol and 4 Alieve every 6 hours.) The pills helped to lessen the pain, but not eliminate it.

 I decided to try Postual Alignment Therapy. During my consultation with Brenda, she was able to assess that my pelvis was locked into a posterior position and that it was in part causing my disc to bulge, which consequently put pressure on my sciatic nerve. She informed me that I had lost the curve in the small of my back as well, which was a significant part of my problem and pain. At that time she gave me some exercises to start with that mainly addressed the problem areas but all parts of my body as well. A week after beginning my postural alignment therapy, I felt better.  As the pain began to subside, I weaned myself off ALL the medications I was taking. After a few sessions with Brenda, I went from no mobility without pain, to 100 % mobility ! I believe in the therapy that Brenda is doing and I tell everyone I know who has musculoskeletal pain about her.

I was not having back problems, but Brenda asked me, as a friend, to let her show me the Egoscue exercises. My main complaints were that I became fatigued very easily and experienced some soreness in my back, neck and feet after a long day. I also had the beginning symptoms of plantar fasciitis. Of course I thought I had low energy and various troublesome symptoms from just being a normal post-menopausal woman.   When Brenda did the initial evaluation, she discovered that my right side tended to draw forward as if my core was twisting. And my posture was slumping forward. After doing the prescribed Egoscue exercises for two to three weeks, I happily discovered that I could sit, stand and walk much longer without fatigue. The plantar fasciitis went away completely. And because my posture improved and certain core muscles became stronger, I saw improvement in my practice of Tai Chi and doing everyday tasks. Thanks, Brenda! I’m a believer!

A Little Motivation
Pain doesn't tell you when you ought to stop. Pain is the little voice in your head that tries to hold you back because it knows -
If you continue you will change.  Don't let it stop you from being who you can be and all you can be.
Exhaustion tells you when you ought to stop.  You only reach your limit when you can go no further.
